Vyas’ great imagination and North
American background occupy
the heart of eclectic, post-modern,

VINEET VYAS with BAGESHREE VAZE

VINEET VYAS—TABLA
Vineet Vyas is one of Canada’s young and dynamic musical talents. He is a disciple of the legendary Tabla maestro, Pandit Kishan Maharaj. During his performances, audiences worldwide are enthralled as they witness and feel the depth of his musicality, spontaneity, and creativity. Raised Truro, Nova Scotia, but now based in Toronto and New Delhi, Vineet was born into a family of traditional musicians of India: his grandfather, Pandit Brahmanand Vyas, was a renowned vocalist of New Delhi, and initiated Vineet into North Indian (Hindustani) classical music at the tender age of five. Vineet has been an active performer in the Canadian music scene since the World Exposition 1986, Vancouver, BC. In 1987, he began studying with Pandit Kishan Maharaj in Benares, in the traditional style of Guru-shishya parampara. After intense training and sadhana (dedication) to his guru, Vineet has firmly established himself as an accomplished tabla artist. Nowadays he is a much sought after performer in India, Europe and Canada. Vineet has performed with some of India's eminent classical artists such as Us. Amjad Ali Khan, Pt Rajan and Sajan Mishra, Us.Shahid Parvez and Us. Aashish Khan just to name a few. He has been awarded scholarships from the Canadian Government in recognition of his musical talent and has been featured on CBC television and radio. His new solo CD, Taalworks, is a breakthrough album, featuring tabla at the forefront, with interesting and new melodic textures, such as Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata.

BAGASHREE VAZE—DANCER
Born in Pune, India but raised in Canada, Bageshree Vaze was destined to live a life influenced by different cultures. Since her early teens, she has studied North Indian classical vocal music under her father, Dr Damodar Vaze and in 2000 she began advanced music studies with one of India’s foremost vocalists, Smt. Veena Sahasrabuddhe. At the same time of course, Bageshree was soaking up western pop, dance and electronica and developing her own unique musical vision. But what makes this multi talented artist really unique is her extensive training in Indian classical dance. Completing her Arangetram (dance graduation) at 16, she has studied in India with the late Guru T.K. Mahalingam Pillai, Guru Vempati Chinna Satyam and the living legend of Kathak, Pandit Birju Maharaj, under various scholarships and awards. Bageshree is an in demand choreographer and performer known for bringing together various styles into a cohesive whole. And so it is with her music. Released in Canada in 2002, and released in South Asia by Crescendo Music in January 2004, 'Bageshree' is a bold move onto the modern world music stage. A world-class video by Flirting Vision (cinematography by Binod Pradhan) of the first single 'Deewana', had massive airplay in India, and Bageshree was named MTV India's 'rising star' for February. IN 2007, Bageshree completed her second album 'Tarana', a collection of songs arranged and adapted for Indian classical dance. This landmark Cd was produced by tabla virtuoso Vineet Vyas and is set for release in India by Times Music in late 2008. Combining the beauty of classical Indian dance and music with Western instrumentation and aesthetics, her work is a reflection of her Indo-Canadian upbringing, and a homage to both her traditions as well as to the confluence of cultures in a new world. Bageshree Vaze is a truly creative force for the new millennium.
